Google?s Mobile Future Is Now

card-flightsGoogle Now may be one of Google's most underrated new products of 2012, but I think it will turn out to be Google's killer mobile product in the long run. It's the one tool that brings together virtually everything Google knows about you and where you are and then turn all of this information into a useful dashboard on your phone. No other Google product (with the possible exception of some of its advertising services) draws up such a wealth of data about you.

We Asked, You Answered: Why are you committed to drinking local ...

"My first reason is that Michigan wine tastes wonderful to me.?I feel soooo good contributing to our local economy and local farmers.?The second reason is that I made a New Years Resolution last year to only buy Michigan wines. I am happy to say that for the first time ever?I have kept my New Years Resolution!!! All of my friends know that I only buy MI wines and tease me about being a wine snob, but I?ll take that title happily. I would rather be a local country snob than a hoity toity California or French snob. LOL!!! I liked that resolution so much I am going to renew it this year.? I am sad to report that I did not keep the second part of my resolution.?That was to visit each of the main wine trails during the year.?I was able to make it to 2 ? (Leelanau, Pioneer and part of Sunrise).?Time just got away from me. I am going to renew that resolution as well and plan things better."
??Shawn Dilts,?Ovid

"Vacationing with my family is when I discovered Michigan wine. It was a Michigan Lake Harvest Riesling (I call them a gateway drug to other wine) that got me obsessed with Michigan wineries, I've been hooked ever since. I have to admit that my palate has increased greatly since then. :-) I love that we have this industry in our state and I love what it brings. There is nothing better then being up north and sipping wine in a tasting room!"
??Leslie Jablonski, Fort Wayne, Indiana

"My reason for drinking local wine, is simple. I love it!?

Until my first trek to Traverse City after hitting legal drinking age, I had zero interest in wine. I'd disliked everything I'd tried, and chalked it up to 'just not being a wine drinker'. Then, while in TC for a bout of Red Wings training camp, I was hauled along for a day of tasting.?

I was hooked.?

This was in 1998, and I was the ripe old age of 22, and every holiday season since then, I have made gifts of local beverages, to dear friends and family (but only the people I really like, because the investment is never a cheap one). It used to be just wines, but now, I do microbrews and craft beers, too (you should see my husband's Advent Calendar this year. It really is a sight to behold.)

I also make a habit of bringing what I call 'vino virgins' to wineries in my area.?

I have brought so many people into Robinettes Cellars that Alicia Robinette teases me that I need a punch card. I also organize treks to the Old Mission Peninsula twice a year, designed to indoctrinate new people - people who love wine, but have not had the opportunity (or sometimes the inclination) to make the trek from Grand Rapids to Grand Traverse County. I make a third trip for a select group, because Leelanau is mostly dry, and not for every palate.?

In 2013, I'm going to add a fourth trip, and visit the wineries to the south, because a great bunch of businesses is being slighted.?

I don't see why people bother to get Napa or Australian wines, when we have such an amazing selection available in Michigan. Whether your taste be dry red, semi sweet or sweet white, or a completely different fruit altogether, Michigan really does have something for everyone!"
??Roberta Pelton, Grand Rapids

"I do not live in Michigan but some of our favorite vacation destinations are in Michigan, specifically the UP, which we have visited four times in the last few years. There are various cultural events going on at wineries to see. The several southwest Michigan wineries are a great quick trip from home and it is fun to drink and discover Michigan wines. The wines are high quality and reflect the fantastic fruits grown right in Michigan."
? Janet Rozycki, South Bend, Indiana ?

"My community is surrounded by local farms. They are centennial family farms, and new sustainable, organic farms. Eating locally grown food is so important to my family because we maximize the nutrients available in the food (which includes specific immunities specific to our locality), but also because we support the farms, local families who work there, and the community that supports the business. In turn, the farm supports the community. Locally produced wine is part of that food community for us. We know who grows the grapes that make the wine we drink. As a result, our family has a deep respect for the food we eat, and the effort it took to grow and produce it."
??Shelly Vrsek, Dexter

"I drink Michigan wine because it's simply a better product! ?I truly like it better than all other wines I've tried."
??Laura Besser, Belmont

"My reasons for drinking Michigan wine are: As a native Michigander I want to buy locally (or in this case, statewide) as much as possible. I also think Michigan grapes and winemakers produce some terrific wines! ?Hubby and I hosted a wine tasting dinner last year and among a blind comparison between French and Michigan wines (a friend who's in training as a sommelier paired the wines), Michigan wines won overwhelmingly!"
??Suzette Burkitt-Wesolek, Williamston

"I support the local growers/producers/distillers/brewers/restaurateurs etc. by buying and eating locally produced products as much as possible. Helps the economy by keeping the dollars local. I like having local produce, beers, wines, spirits, and handmade food, and getting to know the people who grow/produce it."
??Bruce Gaugush, Lansing

"One of the main reasons that I drink Michigan wine is that the money I spend on wine stays in the state. Wine is an agricultural product. Michigan wine?provides jobs to?winery and vineyard workers. The main reason I drink Michigan wine is that it tastes so damn good!"
??Bill MacDonald, Ann Arbor

"I love to learn about wine, and what a better way than to learn by visiting tasting rooms! Living here in Michigan with plenty of tasting rooms just a short drive away, gives us Michiganders just that luxury."
??Amber Stevens, Lake Orion

"We drink ONLY Michigan wine! ?My friend came home from L.A. this summer telling me about all the great varieties from CA ? I tried some, but Michigan is better! ?I also love it that I have been there, met the people who actually make the wines, and even have had the chance to meet the wine dogs!"
? Sherri Adcock, Bay City

"I do believe in supporting local economy. I was born in Michigan and will live here the rest of my life. Even if that wasn't important for me though, I have to say that Michigan wines are far more superior ?than other wines. I find them to be more complex and flavorful than any other wines."
??Jennifer Hayden, Ionia

"1. ?Michigan Wine is readily sampled and tasted before purchase.
2. ?Michigan Wineries encourage responsible imbibing.
3. ?We support Michigananders Right to Wine!
4. ?Michigan Wineries employ Michiganders.?
5. ?Michigan Wineries are home to some of the finest Wine Dogs on the Planet.
6. ?Michigan Wine with Michigan Cheese is a Mighty Fine time.
7. ?Michigan Wine variety and taste is as broad as the Big Mac.
8. ?Michigan Wine warms the heart and body on a cold winters night.
9. ?Michigan Wine fits in a standard box which stacks well on my basement stairs because it never lasts long enough to cellar.
10. I like it."
??Mark Jackson, Adrian

"I love the state of Michigan and could not imagine ever leaving or moving to another state. By purchasing local products we are able to support Michigan companies and help keep our money in the state. In addition we help reduce the carbon footprint and it helps with?staying green (which I am big into). Most importantly we love the wine areas and are able to enjoy the beautiful sights while we drink delicious wines from Michigan's bounty!

I wouldn't have it any other way! I love Michigan and I love Michigan Wines!"
? Sebastian Karwaczynski, Macomb Township

"Michigan provides us with locally grown foods and wines with (what I would call) an olfactory and gustatory journey.?'My journey' began many years ago and has, over time, translated into a broader, never-ending journey of self-discovery. My wish for the New Year is to keep pushing forth, whether it be into the next 100 varieties, or unearthing new expressions of the first 100. Never stop discovering, learning, questioning."
??Sally Breidinger, Stanton

"We started 2006 by celebrating the end of our "Annus horribilis" of?2005. We both had had some health issues and we decided to celebrate!?We started to tour different local (or not so local ??our family motto?is 'The worse the weather the farther we go') wineries."
??Beth Jackson, Adrian

"We drink Michigan wines to support our local economy and growers. ?As a matter of fact we have a group of 14 of us that go wine tasting every year for the past nine years and we ALWAYS stay in Michigan. ?We have even passed this along to our kids. ?My oldest is getting married in 2013 and only wants Michigan wines and beers at her?reception."
??Katie Wolff, Royal Oak

"Dear Santa,

I understand you are new to the ?shop local? principals, since you are so isolated at the North Pole!? My reasons for supporting our local stores include:

Every day you vote with your dollar when you shop local and do not support out-of-state owned box stores. Local businesses support other local stores and services, have children in local schools and truly care about you, their customer. They are sad when you lose a pet or family member, are concerned when they are sick and notice when a customer is having a bad day. They appreciate that you work hard for your money and completely value your purchases at their business.

Buying Michigan wine fits into these values.? It keeps our money in Michigan, helping support our great State and the friends we meet along the wine trails who own the vineyards and work at their wineries.? Not to mention, as an added bonus, the wine is wonderful tasting, easily affordable, and makes great gifts throughout the holidays.

Sincerely,"
???Holly Whitehead, Mount Pleasant

"If it wasn't any good, I wouldn't drink it. Thankfully, Michigan is putting out some great wine, as well as craft beer and spirits. I enjoy supporting local wineries and brewpubs, which keeps my money in Michigan. And I suggest to everyone I meet that they need to give Michigan wines a try."
??Dave Moss, Huntington Woods

"By drinking from the area you live in, you are truly experiencing the local flavor! Every region I've lived in has had its special delicacies, but I'm more intrigued by how similar things can taste so different. I'm originally from a?riesling?region in NY, so trying the?riesling?here is a great way to have something familiar in a new way."
??Katy Meyers, East Lansing

"I drink Michigan wine to support all the wine makers and wine growers because I want to see local companies and farmers thrive!? We drink cider too to support apple and pear growers :)?So important to keep agriculture alive here so that our orchards don't turn into housing developments!!!"
??Heather Smith, Traverse City

"I like to drink local / Michigan wine for the entire experience ? good wine, nice tasting rooms, family owned, beautiful and and vineyards."
??Mary Anne Kenerson, Clarkston

"I love supporting local and sustainable products.? Drinking Michigan Wines allows me to support local folks who take the time to produce a quality product, as well as Michigan in general."
??Jessica Semke, Owosso

"We drink Michigan Wines because: Most of our Michigan wines were purchased at the vineyards, on our yearly restocking trips. That makes the wines more personal, and reminds us of the fun we had when visiting the scenic?vineyards and possibly even talked to the wine makers."
? Walt Bischoff, Muskegon

"I?m having a hard time answering this question today, because?really, why WOULDN?T you buy Michigan made?!? I can make all kinds of arguments about how our economy is boosted by locavores,?why doing so is healthier for our bodies and?better for our environment, and how costs can be decreased by cutting out shipping costs, etc...

Our wines are comparable with some of the worlds finest because of?a similar climate to where some of the first winegrowing and making took place. I may be biased being born here, but I think our mitten state is more beautiful too. Don?t agree??Then?I bet you have never been on a vineyard tour in?Leelanau,?Mackinaw,?or Traverse City, just to name a few.

Anywhere you go to experience?pure Michigan (by the bottle or otherwise), you will find great tastes, pleasant people, unique?arts, and good times. What could be more motivation that that?!

We can?give Santa one taste and he?ll agree,??*CHEERS* to PureMichigan! :)"

(AP) ? Pope Benedict XVI wished Christmas peace to the world Tuesday, decrying the slaughter of the "defenseless" in Syria and urging Israelis and Palestinians to find the courage to negotiate.

Delivering the Vatican's traditional Christmas day message from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, Benedict also encouraged Arab spring nations, especially Egypt, to build just and respectful societies.

He prayed that China's new leaders respect religion, a reference to persecution Chinese Roman Catholics have at times endured under communism.

As the 85-year-old pontiff, bundled up in an ermine-trimmed red cape, gingerly stepped foot on the balcony, the pilgrims, tourists and Romans below backing St. Peter's Square erupted in cheers.

Less than 12 hours earlier, Benedict had led a two-hour long Christmas Eve ceremony in the basilica. He sounded hoarse and looked weary as he read his Christmas message and then holiday greetings in 65 languages.

In his "Urbi et Orbi" speech, which traditionally reviews world events and global challenges, Benedict prayed that "peace spring up for the people of Syria, deeply wounded and divided by a conflict that does not spare even the defenseless and reaps innocent victims."

He called for easier access to help refugees and for "dialogue in the pursuit of a political solution to the conflict."

Benedict prayed that God "grant Israelis and Palestinians courage to end long years of conflict and division, and to embark resolutely on the path to negotiation."

Israel, backed by the United States, opposed the Palestinian statehood bid, saying it was a ploy to bypass negotiations, something the Palestinians deny. Talks stalled four years ago.

Senior Palestinian official Saeb Erekat said that in a meeting with the pope last week, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas "emphasized our total readiness to resume negotiations." The Palestinians have not dropped their demand that Israel first stop settlement activities before returning to the negotiating table.

Hours earlier, in the ancient Bethlehem church built over the site where tradition holds Jesus was born, candles illuminated the sacred site and the joyous sound of prayer filled its overflowing halls.

Overcast skies and a cold wind in the Holy Land didn't dampen the spirits of worshippers in the biblical West Bank town. Bells pealed and long lines formed inside the fourth-century Church of the Nativity complex as Christian faithful waited to see the grotto that is Jesus' traditional birthplace.

Duncan Hardock, 24, a writer from MacLean, Va., traveled to Bethlehem from the republic of Georgia, where he had been teaching English. After passing through the separation barrier Israel built to ward off West Bank attackers, he walked to Bethlehem's Manger Square where the church stands.

"I feel we got to see both sides of Bethlehem in a really short period of time," Hardock said. "On our walk from the wall, we got to see the lonesome, closed side of Bethlehem ... But the moment we got into town, we're suddenly in the middle of the party."

Bethlehem lies 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Jerusalem. Entry to the city is controlled by Israel, which occupied the West Bank in 1967.

For those who couldn't fit into the cavernous Bethlehem church, a loudspeaker outside broadcast the Christmas day service to hundreds of faithful in the square.

Their Palestinian hosts, who welcome this holiday as the high point of their city's year, were especially joyous this season, proud of the United Nations' recognition of an independent state of Palestine just last month.

"From this holy place, I invite politicians and men of good will to work with determination for peace and reconciliation that encompasses Palestine and Israel in the midst of all the suffering in the Middle East," said the top Roman Catholic cleric in the Holy Land, Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal in his annual address.

Back at the Vatican, Benedict offered encouragement to countries after the Arab spring of democracy protests. He had a special word for Egypt, "blessed by the childhood of Jesus."

Without citing the tumultuous politics and clashes in the region, he urged the North African region to build societies "founded on justice and respect for the dignity of every person."

Benedict prayed for the return of peace in Mali and harmony in Nigeria, where, he recalled "savage acts of terrorism continue to reap victims, particularly among Christians."

The Vatican for decades has been worried about the well-being of its flock in China, who are loyal to the pope in defiance of the communist's government support of an officially sponsored church, and relations between Beijing and the Holy See are often tense.

Speaking about China's newly installed regime leaders, Benedict expressed hope that "they will esteem the contribution of the religions, in respect for each other, in such a way that they can help to build a fraternal society for the benefit of that noble people and of the whole world."

Acknowledging Latin America's predominant Christian population, he urged government leaders to carry out commitments to development and to fighting organized crime.

In Britain, the royal family was attending Christmas Day church services at St. Mary Magdelene Church on Queen Elizabeth II's sprawling Sandringham estate, though there were a few notable absences. Prince William is spending the holiday with his pregnant wife Kate and his in-laws in the southern England village of Bucklebury, while Prince Harry is serving with British troops in Afghanistan.

Later Tuesday, the queen will deliver her traditional, pre-recorded Christmas message, which for the first time will be broadcast in 3D.

Creative Writing Prompts: English Essay Writing

A few observations could be made on English essays and English essay writing. The first thing about the essay is that it is a literary work that is indefinable in nature. It is a definitely a type of literature, but it is not exactly possible to be analyzed, and that is the reason for which literary men and critics differ widely in their assessment of the nature of an essay. Secondly, an essay may be written on any subject irrespective of it being high or low, slight or great. The art of English essay-writing is dependent on the adequate treatment of the concerning subject. The third relevant issue is the importance of the manner in writing an essay. In fact, it is the very manner, as a customary practice, a few observations may be made on essay and not the subject itself that counts in the essay, which has to be impressive and attractive enough in expression. The mode or the pattern of writing is the fourth aspect in the essay. There are no golden rules in terms of the narrative, reflective, subjective and so on, and the essayist may have his own choice of method. The golden key to good English essay writing is freedom of writing.

The writer is given the liberty to choose his own technique in order to make his writing impressive and attractive at the same time. The final observation in English essay writing is that there the style of the essay writer that cannot grow under the fetters of instructions. The style with which the essayist writes is the product of his independent self and may differ from other essay writers. It is needless to mention that English essay writing is a distinct form of literary art, and needs a very creative spirit as well as well as a creative way of writing. A good English essay writing depends, too, like other successful literary form, on the right interpretation of the matter and the manner, of the content and the form. Informality and freedom are the qualities of an essay as distinguished from a dissertation. The want of an organic quality and the absence of that orderly and logical mode of procedure that we look for in the more ambitious kinds of literature may be reckoned among the most pronounced structural peculiarities of the English essay writing. Essay rose because men felt a desire to express through a vehicle in which they could enjoy something of a freedom of expression.

The well-marked tendency among modern English essayists towards greater logical regularity and consistency of structure is only one among many other signs of the evolution of the literary type of English essay writing in response to changing conditions. With Lamb, Hazlitt and De Quincy, the English essay writing became the popular form in which the mind roams independently, soars and sinks. The mantle has fallen on the modern essayists.

Gout study offers genetic insight into 'disease of kings'

Dec. 23, 2012 ? Scientists have shed light on why some people are more susceptible to gout than others. A study has identified 18 new genetic variations that increase levels of uric acid in the blood, which is the main cause of the disease. High levels of uric acid form small crystals in joints and tissues, causing pain and swelling -- the main symptoms of the condition once known as the 'disease of kings'.

Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, affecting up to two per cent of the world's population. Understanding how these common genetic variants increase uric acid levels in the blood may lead to improvements in the treatment and prevention of the disease. It could also help research into urate-lowering drugs.

The international team of researchers, including scientists from the University of Edinburgh and Queen Mary, University of London, say gout is becoming more common in the developed world.

They attribute its rise in part to increasing levels of obesity and an aging population.

This painful joint inflammation affects at least one in seventy adults in the UK with approximately 900,000 people suffering at least one attack of gout in their lifetime.

The work, published in Nature Genetics, was carried out by analysing the genetic data of more than 140,000 people, from more than 70 individual studies from Europe, the U.S., Japan and Australia and represents the largest study worldwide on this topic.

Dr Veronique Vitart, from the Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit at the University of Edinburgh, and one of the lead authors of the study said: "Abnormal levels of uric acid have been associated with various common diseases and conditions, but causal relationships are not always clear. Gaining insight into the genetic components of uric acid levels offers a very useful tool to tackle these issues and to further our understanding of these conditions."

Professor Mark Caulfield, from the William Harvey Research Institute at Queen Mary, and a lead author said: "Existing therapies to avoid attacks of gout sometimes cause side effects. Our findings identify new potential mechanisms for gout and offer opportunities for new therapies which may improve prevention of this debilitating condition in the future.

Seth Rogen And Barbara Streisand Prepare For The 'Guilt Trip'

Though the idea of pairing Seth Rogen with Barbara Streisand might at first glance seem like a strange one, it turns out that these two are actually a match made in heaven. The duo plays a mother and son in the new comedy "The Guilt Trip," and the first clip from the film proves that [...]

Fox 21 pays $6 million for Renee Zellweger 'Cinnamon Girl' pilot for Lifetime

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - After an intense bidding war, Fox 21 has closed a deal to produce Renee Zellweger's "Cinnamon Girl" TV pilot for Lifetime, with a budget around $6 million, described as the highest cost ever for a basic cable pilot.

Lifetime has licensed the rights for U.S. television, and will pay about half of the production cost.

A spokesman for the studio said that Fox 21's Bert Salke stepped up and won the project on Friday afternoon.

An individual close to the deal has told TheWrap that six studios were once in the bidding for the music-themed series.

Others bidding for producing rights included Warner Horizon Television and Universal Cable Productions. Only UCP and Fox 21 were left in the running on Friday.

A Lifetime executive reached by TheWrap disputed the $6 million figure but could offer no specifics.

Lifetime bought the drama pilot, which Zellweger co-created and co-wrote, and risked a $600,000 penalty if they did not make it, the individual said.

Lifetime chief Nancy Dubuc was convinced the show could become a signature for the network, similar to "Mad Men" on AMC or "Glee" on Fox.

Lifetime reportedly considered producing it and retaining the ownership. But given the setting of 1960's Los Angeles and the theme - music - they decided to find a studio to produce the project and to distribute it internationally.

The show is expected to find and create ingenue musical stars similar to what "Glee" and "American Idol" have done. The producers will retain multiple rights over licensing, music sales and concert appearances for the show's talent.

Zellweger co-created "Cinnamon Girl" with Anthony Tambakis ("Warrior"). The story combines Zellwegger's own journey from Texas to Hollywood, and Tambakis' interest in the late 1960's music and movie scene around Laurel Canyon and New Hollywood.

The story revolves around four girls and explores their lives at this turning point in cultural history. Allie MacDonald, Alexis Knapp, Brooke Anne Smith, Jade Bartlett and Sebastian Piggott signed on to the project earlier this month.

CAA represented Zellweger and steered the deal.

(AP Photo/The Huntsville Times, Eric Schultz, File)

(AP) ? A Harvard-educated biologist was sentenced to life in prison without parole Monday after being convicted of going on a shooting rampage during a faculty meeting at an Alabama university, killing three colleagues and wounding three others in 2010.

The jury deliberated for about 20 minutes before convicting Amy Bishop. The former professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville showed no reaction as the verdict was read. She did not speak in court, but her attorney said she has often expressed great remorse for the victims and their families.

"She is shattered beyond belief," attorney Roy Miller said.

Bishop avoided a death sentence by pleading guilty earlier this month to the shootings on Feb. 12, 2010. Before the guilty plea ? which she signed with a barely legible scrawl ? her attorneys had said they planned to use an insanity defense.

However, she was still required to have a brief trial because she admitted to a capital murder charge.

And she still could face a trial in Massachusetts, where she is charged in the 1986 killing of her 18-year-old brother. Seth Bishop's death had been ruled an accident after Amy Bishop told investigators she shot him in the family's Braintree home as she tried to unload her father's gun. But the Alabama shootings prompted a new investigation and charges. David Traub, a spokesman for Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey in Massachusetts, said Monday evening that Morrissey expects to make an announcement by the end of the week.

Bishop killed her boss, biology department chairman Gopi Padila, plus professors Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson. Associate professor Joseph Leahy, staff aide Stephanie Monticciolo and assistant professor Luis Cruz-Vera were shot and wounded.

Leahy said he was satisfied with the verdict and life sentence, but no amount of remorse by Bishop could change what she'd done.

"She has just sort of ceased to exist for me," he told reporters after the brief trial.

A police investigator testified that Bishop initially denied having anything to do with the rampage. And during the trial, Bishop shook her head anytime the judge or prosecutors described the killings as intentional.

District Attorney Rob Broussard said Bishop's reaction in court didn't make sense.

"You can't take a loaded 9 mm and hold it inches away from human beings' heads and tell me you didn't mean to do that," said Broussard.

Investigator Charlie Gray also said police believe Bishop opened fire during the faculty meeting because she was angry over being denied tenure, which effectively ended her career at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

"She would say, 'It didn't happen. I wasn't there. It wasn't me,'" Gray said.

Bishop wore a red jail uniform in court and was shackled at the feet, seated between two attorneys at the defense table.

Also in court, sitting behind prosecutors, were relatives of the people killed in the rampage.

The only other witness to testify was Debra Moriarity, now the chairman of biological sciences at UAH. She testified about how a routine Friday afternoon faculty meeting turned into a scene of carnage with no warning.

Moriarty testified that Amy Bishop sat unusually silent during the nearly hourlong faculty meeting, during which discussions ran from a spring open house to plans for the following fall. People were seated around a crowded conference table in a small room on a chilly, overcast day, she said.

Moriarity said she glanced down at a piece of paper on the table. "And there was a loud bang," she said.

Moriarity said more shots followed in quick succession without Bishop ever saying a word. Moriarity said she was looking directly at Bishop when she shot professor Maria Ragland Davis, who was killed instantly while still seated at the table.

Moriarity said she dove under the table for safety and tried to grab Bishop's legs, but the woman stepped out of her grasp. "I was saying, 'Stop, Amy, stop. Don't do this. I've helped you before, I'll help you again.'"

Moriarity said Bishop pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. She said Bishop continued trying to shoot her in a hall outside, but the gun had jammed.

Ezine Publishing For Profit | Find New Articles at Just Articles Article ...

Article by Steve Duval

More and more businesses are expanding into specialized areas, this is creating a greater need for information in the form of ezine publishing. Pretty much any area of endeavor, whether it is a hobby, business or educational pursuit, requires good information. It is the lifeblood for success.

Ezine publishing fills this need and also supplies internet marketers with avenues for making profit. Writing and producing a newsletter can lead to high earning potential. With as few as a thousand subscribers, the profits can be impressive.

There are no set rules for ezine publishing or creating a newsletter but with a little investigation into this market and a bit of caution in your approach, your income can increase every month.

It is not necessary to be a business consultant or stock market insider in order to create a newsletter about that topic. Ezine publishing can cater to many types of activities; sports, hobby crafting, health, home improvement and ways of making money.

Probably the biggest key to success in ezine publishing is to do plenty of research into the people who make up the market of your likely subscribers. Think about the hobbies and interests that you are involved in that could translate into an income producing newsletter. Interview friends, relatives and associates who are skilled in a particular area and use their expertise to build good content.

A successful newsletter will be written about a single subject, it will be timely and contain content of high quality. Add a resource box to the end of each newsletter and make sure the report has value to the readers in your chosen market. Keep the resource box humble, overt selling will not gain as many customers as a softer approach.

Each report should contain a concise statement from someone who is an expert or at least completely familiar with the specialized field. No overt advertising should be included, only content-rich, high quality material. The information should be current and unique, readers should not be able to find this material anywhere else. Readers need to feel they are getting inside information, a hot tip, news scoop or a story that is fresh and new.

Ezine publishing should not be aimed for mass market appeal, instead it should be laser targeted toward the select group of people most likely to be interested in any particular field.

Market saturation should not be a concern even with all the media available. There is plenty of general information on most any subject, good ezine publishing will present a more specialized viewpoint.

Focusing a newsletter on success and motivation with plenty of enthusiasm for the subject is the key to staying ahead of the competition. Loyal subscribers expect superior knowledge, and will be more likely to purchase a recommended product or service.

Internet marketers depend on their subscribers for income, ezine publishing that provides outstanding value will not only create a solid customer base, but happy customers will always tell a friend and this generates more website traffic.

Google-owned Motorola mocks Apple Maps app in new ad

Google has used its Motorola smartphone brand to poke fun at the ongoing Apple Maps debacle.

A new advertisement for the Motorola Droid Razr M depicts the smartphone next to the iPhone 5. The Android device shows Google Maps while the Apple smartphone features the new Maps app on screen.

While the Razr M displays a detailed satellite image of 315 E 15th Street in downtown Manhattan in Google Maps, the iPhone 5 with Maps shows the same street, appearing as an almost barren stretch of road.

The ad's caption reads: "The real world that's fit for your hands," while the wording underneath the iPhone 5, simply reads "#iLost'

Overshadowed

The Motorola Mobility Twitter account posted the posted the ad late on Friday, while the Maps mess was busy overshadowing iPhone 5 launch day. Moto has continued to push the #iLost hashtag in tweets since.

Google, of course, will probably be feeling pretty smug right now; like a jilted lover who's just seen their ex arm-in-arm with a dramatically less desirable new partner.

Google Maps was shelved by Apple for a homegrown solution for iOS 6. Apple has pleaded for patience as as it seeks to improve the new tech with the addition of user data.

Going Social Inside-Out at Bluewolf | Social Media Today

Communicating person-to-person via the Internet has similarities to learning a new language and getting used to a strange culture. It doesn't come naturally to everyone, especially in the context of business relationships. There's a certain amount of fear in taking the social step, so it makes sense that prior to engaging clients and customers, employees of a company should practice internally, where the benefits of social can open doors to new forms of collaboration.?

While at Dreamforce 2012 I had the opportunity to talk with Natasha Oxenburgh of Bluewolf, a consultancy based in San Francisco. Natasha is Bluewolf's Social Programs Manager.

Last year Bluewolf recognized that social media and interaction were evolving into an essential business practice and skill set, with respect to their client offerings. It was important to the company that all of its employees learn and understand how to use social tools effectively. Some employees were already fluent in social practice while others had managed to avoid much involvement with the technologies and skills that, until recently, had been regarded as optional.

The challenge - as it is in many businesses of all sizes - was to bring everyone in Bluewolf up to speed in a way that was non-threatening and engaging. It's always been the case that some people smoothly adopt social media and some hold back out of professional anxiety - their possible embarrassment or loss of status within the organization.

ImageNatasha, who came on board at Bluewolf 18 months ago, manages Bluewolf's website content and has been driving this internal change management campaign around social collaboration. She proposed a learning and gamification program that offered incentives for taking steps into the internal social environment of the company.

As Natasha said, "Our Going Social program was started at the beginning of this year with two goals. One was to increase internal collaboration. More importantly it was about getting our employee base engaged. Engaged employees increase customer engagement."

The goal for each employee was to build a rich professional profile, accessible by all employees and managers, that would answer the question, "Who is this person and what should I know about her or him?"

"If we turn our employees into external thought leaders it raises the value of our brand as well as their personal brands," Natasha said, "We achieved buy-in from employees by helping them develop their own personal brands."

What did employees have to gain by participating? Natasha called it the WIIFM - What's In It For Me - question. The answer was, "Getting known internally, improving your reputation, gaining visibility."

The Going Social team asked employees-in-training, "What do you want to be known for?" The personal branding would serve the purpose of fulfilling that wish.

Going Social began with a 30-day case study using two of Bluewolf's senior consultants. In order to become better known in the company, each consultant set up a personal blog, engaged with communities outside of the company, shared their knowledge within the company and kept video diaries. Their profiles became models for the rest of the employees.

As SMBs and enterprise level companies confront the stark realities of social competency as a competitive factor, they will need to develop their own versions of Going Social - moving their activities into the increasingly social marketplace. Though the challenges to corporate cultures are many, the vast majority of businesses have no choice but to adapt.

Easy Crockpot Recipes for College Students - The Sweets Life

When I heard my college-aged brother Quinn was looking for some easy recipes to make, my mind first went to the crockpot. I knew if he could get his hands on a crockpot, meal prep would be infinitely easier for him. I appreciate the crockpot for its virtually hands free cooking, ideal on evenings I'm working late or have something else going on. The same can be said for Quinn, who has basketball practice on top of classes and working.

I have quite an archive of crockpot recipes here on the blog, but I picked out a few that I thought would be particularly easy / Quinn-approved! Here you go buddy, cooking doesn't get much easier than this!

Slowcooker BBQ Beer Chicken?--All college students have beer on hand, right?! This is literally a dump it and forget about it recipe. Quinn had this a few times while living here this summer and so I already know this one is a hit! Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Chili-Quinn goes to school in Minnesota. Have you ever experienced a Minnesota winter? I made the mistake of visiting Quinn last December and learned my lesson! They need all the heat they can get out there and this spicy chili fits the bill! Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches-This was another recipe I made when Quinn was around this summer and it got two thumbs up...particularly because we really liked to say "au jus". Now you can make it yourself Q! Shredded Beef Sandwiches-You can't get much easier than this--only 4 ingredients! This was one of my mom's staple recipes when we were growing up and it screams "comfort food" to me. I myself will be making this this winter (and taking a better picture!). Slow Cooker Orange Chicken-Another recipe with minimal ingredients! Grab a bag of instant rice and this meal is pretty much complete! Salsa Chicken and Black Bean Soup-You know a meal is good when it's made more than once in our household and this one has been made multiple times! Like all of the others, the ingredient list is relatively short and prep work is pretty much nothing!

Any other crockpot recipes to share with Quinn (and other college students, and busy people, for that matter!)? Leave a link!

2013 Honda Insight Hybrid Combines ... - Auto industry news

The 2013 Honda Insight provides a roomy interior, versatile hatchback design, fun-to-drive nature and an award-winning low cost of ownership. The Honda Insight received a 2012 Total Cost of Ownership Award from Kelley Blue Book?s kbb.com, with a key contributor being the 5-door Insight?s impressive city/highway/combined EPA fuel economy rating2of 41/44/42 mpg.

2013 Honda Insight

After extensive changes for 2012 including updated exterior styling, an enhanced interior, additional features on selected models, and an EPA fuel economy-ratingimprovement, the Insight continues unchanged for 2013. The 2013 Honda Insight remains the most affordable hybrid for sale in the U.S., and pricing is unchanged for 2013, starting at $18,500. The 2013 Insight goes on sale September 18.

The 2013 Insight is offered in three models. The value-oriented base model is simply designated as Insight, and is well equipped with a 160-watt audio system, automatic climate control, power windows, and more. The Insight LX adds a USB audio interface, cruise control, armrest console, floor mats, security system and steering-wheel mounted audio controls. The Insight EX adds alloy wheels, six-speaker audio system, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, automatic headlights and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Insight EX is also available with the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with voice recognition and rearview camera.

Powertrain
A Honda Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system powers the Insight. Comprised of a 1.3-liter i?VTEC gasoline 4-cylinder engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor, the combination develops 98 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 123 lb-ft. of torque at 1000-1700 rpm. To maximize fuel efficiency, friction-reducing measures are used throughout the engine and the transmission.

Fully automatic in operation, the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is an advanced unit that substitutes the gears found in more traditional transmissions and replaces them with a metal push-belt running between a pair of variable-width pulleys. Combined with the Drive-by-Wire throttle system, the CVT constantly adjusts to provide the most efficient drive ratio possible depending on torque load. Honda?s CVT provides better fuel efficiency and acceleration when compared to a conventional transmission. On EX models, the steering wheel includes paddle shifters, which allow manually shifting though a range of seven fixed ratios for a sporty driving experience.

The Insight comes equipped with fuel-efficiency enhancement technology called Eco Assist. A push of the dash-mounted ECON button modifies throttle control, CVT operation, idle-stop duration, air conditioning and cruise-control operation (if so equipped) to minimize energy use and increase fuel efficiency. A sophisticated feedback system uses ambient color behind the speedometer to indicate overall driving efficiency. An Eco Display provides feedback on braking and acceleration. Plus, Eco Score provides ongoing support of an efficient driving style.

Body
The Insight was given significant updates for the 2012 model year, including a more distinctive grille design with a blue accent bar representing the Insight?s high-tech hybrid identity. To improve aerodynamic performance, the strakes ahead of the front wheels were extended by 0.4 inches to better direct air around the front tires. The shape of the engine bay underbody cover was also fine-tuned, and air diffusers were added under the rear bumper to smooth airflow behind the vehicle. The changes combined to net a 2-percent increase in aerodynamic performance.

Chassis
The Insight rides on MacPherson strut front suspension, combined with a torsion-beam rear suspension that helps maximize interior space. Electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion power steering (EPS) offers predictable and linear steering feel, while also saving fuel compared to traditional hydraulic systems that put a greater load on the engine. With its 36.1-foot turning diameter, the Insight offers good maneuverability in congested urban settings. Insight and Insight LX models have 15-inch stamped-steel wheels with wheel covers and the Insight EX has 15-inch alloy wheels.

Interior
The Insight?s roomy interior offers comfortable seating for up to five passengers. Versatility is a key Insight strong point, and the 60/40 split rear seatbacks fold down to create a large 31.5 cubic-foot cargo space and make it easy to mix passengers and cargo.

Advanced instrumentation gives the Insight an upscale look, and provides the driver with key information at a glance. A large digital speed display is positioned high in the instrument cluster, close to the driver?s sightline and easy to see. The convenient Multi-Information Display (MID) allows quick access to a range of useful information with convenient steering-wheel mounted controls. Automatic climate control is standard on all grades. The Insight LX has premium seat fabric, while the Insight EX is upholstered with a combination of synthetic leather and premium fabric.

Available on Insight EX models, the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with voice recognition4 includes a rearview camera and provides routing and guidance to individual addresses and more than 7-million points of interest within the continental United States. With its 16-GB memory system, it offers fast route calculation and includes FM traffic, a subscription-free service that alerts drivers to traffic conditions.

Safety
Standard safety features on all Insight models include dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side-curtain airbag system, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution (EBD), driver?s and front-passenger?s active head restraints, and a front body structure designed to help mitigate pedestrian injuries. The Insight also features Honda?s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which provides improved occupant protection and crash compatibility between vehicles of different sizes and ride heights in frontal crashes.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the Insight a ?2012 Top Safety Pick.? IIHS rates vehicles on performance in front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. To earn a 2012 Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must have good results (the highest possible) in all four Institute tests.

Manufacturing and Awards
The Insight is manufactured by Honda in Suzuka, Japan. Though the Insight features advanced hybrid technology, that doesn?t mean it takes a lot of money to buy or maintain one. The Honda Insight received a 2012 Total Cost of Ownership Award from Kelley Blue Book?s kbb.com. With its low starting price, excellent fuel mileage and exceptional Honda reliability, the Insight is a great value.

Sunrise Mayor: Toughen Daycare Center Law To Require More Disclosure To Parents

By Michael J. Ryan, Mayor Of Sunrise

At four-years-old,?Jordan Coleman?was old enough to know something wasn?t right, but not old enough to protect himself.

It was a hot August afternoon in Florida.? Maybe he was asleep when the ?staff? of a Sunrise daycare center forgot him in the van.? If so, he likely woke sweaty and to a stifling, choking heat.? Alone.? No one else in the van.? Panic would have set in.

Jordan likely would have stopped sweating as the natural defenses meant to cool his body began to fail.? Hyperventilating, he would have progressed to confusion, and ultimately unconsciousness.

How long did it take? What were the final moments like before he slipped into unconsciousness? ?As a loving son, did he cry out to his Mother?

Want To Win When You Play Video Games? Read This Advice ...

If you really find this article helpful Give it a PLUS from below and help us to spread it.

Try to avoid buying new games for consoles and personal computers. The typical starting price is sixty dollars, but often drops to fifty dollars within a few weeks or months. The longer you wait to buy a title, the cheaper it is going to be for you to get the same game.

When choosing video games for your children, it is vital to do a small research first. Make use of the rating symbols on the front of the packaging, and the game descriptions on the back. But, you can also gain valuable information by talking to other kids, parents and checking out online forums to get real answers about appropriate content.

If as a parent you are concerned with video game content, control what downloadable mods are placed in the game. These downloadable mods are normally made by players, not the video game companies, so there is no rating system. What you thought was a relatively un-risky game can turn a lot worse with one of these mods.

Most kids delight in gaming, even children as young as preschoolers. As a parent, it is vital that you choose games that are both stimulating and educational for your preschooler. When your child is playing a game, sit beside your child and help guide them through the game. By doing this, the game will have more educational value and not just be a form of entertainment to keep the child busy while you do other things.

Practice makes perfect! The more you play a game, the better you?ll be. The more walkthroughs you read, the better prepared you?ll be for each level. Watch videos of others playing, or read posts about their experiences, and you?ll find you quickly master games with small effort and frustration.

Get up and take a break during marathon gaming sessions. Just push the pause button or wait until you?ve finished a level, and then get up and walk around. Take about five to 10 minutes resting your eyes and hands, and then you can get back to the game where you left off.

If you are a gamer, you already know that video gaming can be a pretty expensive leisure activity. If you want to buy the latest and greatest new game, it will usually cost you at least $50 or $60. Before you sink that kind of money in a new game, do your research and check out several reviews on this new game. Be sure it is one that will provide you with countless hours of pleasure before you buy it.

Before you choose that you?ve gotten all there is to get out of a particular video game, take a look at the extra content that?s available right in the game. Many modern games offer alternative modes of play or bonus content that are only available after you?ve made considerable progress in the main game. You may learn many hours of fun left in a game you thought you were finished with!

As a parent, limit your child?s time playing video games. While video game playing in and of itself is not terrible, it is not particularly excellent for your child to play hours upon hours of games. Set a timer for your child to help limit his game playing time.

If you want to find a excellent video game for your child, the best way to start is with what he or she likes. Also, you can reckon about what they may need more of. For example, if your child is having distress spelling, seek out a game that helps with that.

Make sure the games you buy your children are age appropriate. There are brilliant video games on the market that improve a child?s memory and even help them learn school subjects. In addition, these games are fun. But smaller children should not play extremely violent games. Studies show these games dull children to the effects and consequences of violence in real life.

To game comfortably and avoid damaging your body during repetitive game-play, invest in the best accessories. You can buy ergonomically designed joy sticks, mouse pads, controllers for your console and other accessories to help you game in comfort and style. This is especially vital if you game a lot.

Hopefully, this article has shared a small bit of fresh information on the topic of video games. The audience for today?s video games is as wide as the population itself. Men, women, boys, and girls are all enjoying themselves with these electronic entertainments. The popularity of such games only continues to grow, making this kind of info ever more useful.
